Rotaractors celebrating change in the island

Rotaract District 9214 Launches the Island Impact Initiative on Kitobo Island

Over the weekend of July 26-28, 2024, Rotaract District 9214 proudly launched its flagship project, the Island Impact Initiative, on Kitobo Island in the Kalangala District. This significant event, led by District Rotaract Representative Joseph Batter Ssengooba, mobilized over 60 Rotaractors from various clubs, who came together to provide essential medical services and donate vital supplies to the island’s residents.

The Island Impact Initiative received robust support from organizations such as C Care Foundation, Eurofoam, and several Rotary clubs, including Kigo Seven Lakes Golf, Kansanga, Namasuba, Seguku, and Garuga. The dedicated team of young volunteers worked tirelessly to deliver much-needed medical assistance to more than 1,300 individuals, including pregnant mothers, school-going children, and elderly residents. This outreach not only addressed immediate health concerns but also fostered a sense of community and solidarity among the islanders.

In addition to medical services, the Rotaractors distributed essential items such as mattresses, mosquito nets, and “mama kits,” which are crucial for maternal health. These donations significantly improved the living conditions for many families, demonstrating the impact of collective action and community support.

DRR Joseph Ssengooba emphasized the importance of engaging youth in community service, stating, “This year, we are committed to inspiring the youth to serve the islands and bring the magic of Rotary to life.” His vision for the initiative is to empower young people to take an active role in addressing the unique challenges faced by island communities in Uganda.

The Island Impact Initiative is part of a broader commitment by Rotaract District 9214 to enhance access to healthcare, education, clean water, and economic opportunities in these underserved areas. Through collaborative efforts and tailored solutions, the project aims to create sustainable change and empower local residents to thrive.

This event marks a significant milestone in Rotaract’s mission to foster community development and support vulnerable populations, showcasing the transformative power of youth-led initiatives in making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
